Unicode includes emojis but it doesn’t offer the process of storing words in binary format. 

What is UTF-8?

Unicode Transformation Format – 8 bits (UTF-8), designed to coordinate with ASCII encoding. A fixed-length encoding system, unlike ASCII, employs a fixed 1 byte to encode. UTF-8 encoded characters with 1 or up to 4 bytes. Any Unicode character may be converted to a unique binary string to UTF-8, and the binary string can then be converted back to a Unicode character.

UTF-8 is compatible with ASCII; therefore, the first 128 characters of the Unicode character set resemble the ASCII character set. It can also translate those 128 characters into exact binary strings. Same as in ASCII. 

For example:

  • 01000001 = A (ASCII)
  • 01000001 = A (UTF-8)
